These Norfolk Southern Maintenance-of-Way flat cars with Roller Bearing trucks have been employed in a continuous welded rail capacity. Also known as “ribbon rail,” this innovation has replaced most of the traditional 39’ sections of jointed rail across North America. Ribbon rail often comes in ¼ mile lengths, and is preferred by railroads because it increases safety, wears more evenly and lasts longer, and eases maintenance requirements.
