Prototype & Model Overview: Did you know that in 2021, more than 561,000 carloads of steel traversed the rails in North America? Throughout history, transporting steel coils has been a staple of the rail industry. These rolled steel sheets have been transported by all sorts of gondolas or specialized railcars. The Transverse Coil Car is Greenbrier’s answer to the coil steel railcar market. This five-trough coil gondola can house up to five rolled steel coils in various sizes, reducing the number of trucks on highways carrying multiple smaller steel coils.
